Henry Cuellar wins U.S. Rep. District 28 race

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Democrat candidate Henry Cuellar takes the victory in the 2024 U.S. Representative District 28 election, unofficial results show.

According to unofficial final results, Cuellar won with 125,070 votes against Republican candidate Jay Furman's 113,744.

Cuellar's win marks his 11th term serving the 28th Congressional District.

His political career began serving in the Texas House of Representatives from 1987 to 2001.

In 2001, Cuellar was appointed as Texas Secretary of State before being elected as the U.S. Representative for District 28 in 2004.

Cuellar says his next term will focus to preserve the American Dream, promote education and affordable healthcare while strengthening the economy.

Congressional District 28 covers Starr, Atascosa, Duval, Jim Hogg, McMullen, Webb and Zapata counties.

It also covers parts of Bexar and Guadalupe County.
