MONTE ALTO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Hidalgo County investigators have identified the woman who was killed during a dog attack in Monte Alto.
Geronima Florez, 85, was killed Friday evening after one of her dogs attacked her, leaving her bleeding from her neck and head, a news release from the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office stated.
Investigators say Florez had gone outside to feed the dogs when the attack happened.
The canine that attacked Florez was a black pitbull mix breed, which was shot and killed by Florez's brother with a shotgun , according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators further determined the black pitbull was the only dog involved in the attack.
The second dog was recovered by animal control.
