Harlingen waterworks impersonators trying to gain access to homes, police say

Harlingen city officials are warning residents of people who are impersonating employees from the city’s waterworks system.

The police department said via Facebook that these impersonators have been visiting people’s homes over the weekend claiming to be from the city’s waterworks department.

These people have been asking questions about water quality and then requesting permission to enter the home to collect water samples.

Harlingen police said city waterworks employees do not conduct operations such as these “without prior notification or appointment.”

The city is asking anyone who encounters these individuals to advise their local law enforcement and to not let them in your homes or property.
