WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An alligator was spotted in a sewer grate Tuesday evening.

The gator was spotted down International Blvd. by Nana's Taqueria.

A group gathered around in awe Tuesday night to see the gator. Witnesses say the gator has been in the sewer for approximately two weeks.

The Texas Game Warden Public Information Officer Calvin Atkinson says it is working with the Texas Department of Transportation and the City of Weslaco to possibly relocate the gator. The safety of its personnel is being considered before the possible relocation.

He says alligators are native to the Rio Grande Valley and get into sewers sometimes looking for food or other gators.

The Texas Game Warden advises the public to let wildlife be and notes that it is illegal to feed wild alligators.
