Harlingen road closures expected until 10 a.m. for first responder training

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Harlingen residents will experience road closures this morning as first responders conduct a simulation training.

The Harlingen School of Health Professions and Memorial Middle School will be closed to the public and media during this exercise.

Rio Hondo Road will be temporarily closed between Warren St. and 17th Street from 7:30 until approximately 10 a.m.

Members of the Harlingen Police Department and Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District will do an active violence exercise at the Harlingen School of Health Professions to work on their response time, disaster prevention and recovery efforts.

Other local law enforcement agencies and medical response teams will participate in this training.

"The objectives of this simulated exercise will test the dispatch ability to handle large amounts of incoming calls, and to dispatch units accordingly, call for mutual aid (county and surrounding cities), multi-agency contact teams, setting up command posts and staging areas, unified command with Harlingen CISD and other agencies, student tracking / parent notification, simulate EMS transport, and several other objectives," a release from the school district stated.
