HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Harlingen Independent School District is partnering with the Harlingen Police Department for its 10th annual "Shop with a Cop" initiative.
The initiative was founded to help get kids what they need and the presents they have always wanted. Each child got a $125 budget and the opportunity to shop with a cop.
"They can buy stuff for just themselves but a lot of times they're buying it for their siblings or their parents or their friends," said Harlingen Police Chief, Michael Custer. "They just have a great time buying anything that they want to buy."
85 elementary students participated and enjoyed a shopping spree at Walmart, followed by lunch at Chuck E. Cheese.
