HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — On Wednesday, Harlingen City Commissioners recognized several local amateur athletes who won state medals in Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (T.A.A.F) 2024 Summer Games of Texas.
Over 100 local athletes represented the Harlingen Parks & Recreation Department this summer at various meets around the Valley to qualify as finalists and compete in the Games of Texas hosted in Brownsville.
A total of seven athletes competed and earned medals in various track and field events during the state finals from July 25 to the 28. These young athletes competed against others from around the state of Texas to have the chance to medal in their sport.
Hanna Rendon Girls 18 & under 2nd – Pole Vault
Miranda De La Rosa Girls 10 & under 1st – 1600 meter run and 2nd – 800 meter run
Josiah Galvan Boys 14 & under 1st – Pole Vault
Jonathan Wendorf Boys 16 & under 3rd – 100 meter dash
Mia Cerda Girls 18 & under 2nd – 3200 meter run
Delilah Martinez Girls 16 & under 2nd – 800 meter run
Noah Silvestro Boys 16 & under 3rd – Pole Vault
