HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District is hosting its 'Pláticas' to inform parents about resources available to their students.
The first presentation was held on Tuesday at Lemoyne Gardens
The next session is on Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Gutierrez Middle School, located at 3205 Wilson Rd.
Different programs and directors will talk to parents about what to expect this school year.
"When we engage parents and when we empower them to be part of their child's education, that makes a huge difference. And so today, like I said, we're kicking off our pláticas. We will be in several communities throughout the next week or two, and we would love to invite everybody to come and join," Veronica Cortan, Superintendent of Schools for Harlingen CISD, said.
Sylvia Gonzalez, Director of Family Community Engagement for Harlingen CISD, says they will talk about the event coming up on Aug. 8 at the Boys and Girls Club, where they will assist by giving out school supplies and clothes.
The final presentation is on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Los Vecinos.
