HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District is helping the community by hosting a community closet event.

On Tuesday, Harlingen CISD held its 25th annual Texas Parent's Day for the community to have resources such as clothing and haircuts available for their children during the upcoming school year.

Silvia Gonzalez, Director of Family and Community Engagement with Harlingen CISD told ValleyCentral the district wants to ensure all its students and their families have the resources they need for the school year.

"The economy is getting more expensive and it's getting tougher, so we always want to relieve the parents and not let them worry about things such as school supplies, clothes and other things that we can help out," Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez added that families who were not able to make it to Friday's event, there is a clothing closet that will be open next week once everything is back up.

"If you're an HCISD student, we have a clothing closet that is open on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. starting next week. Just give us time to set everything back into our buildings," she said. "[Families] can call, go and get stuff if they weren't able to come to this event."
