The Rio Grande City Police Department has been hard at work preparing for their annual toy drive scheduled for Wednesday, and recently got a little help from Grupo Frontera.

The award-winning Norteño group donated plentiful boxes of toys for RGC PD’s Toys for Rio Kids event.

“A huge thank you to Grupo Frontera for their generous donation of toys to our annual Toy Drive,” the police department said Saturday in a Facebook post. “Your support is helping bring smiles and joy to children in need this holiday season.”

The annual toy drive will be held Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Basilio Villarreal Municipal Park, located at 1473 Stephen Saenz St.

Gifts will be handed out for free to children 12 years old or younger through curbside pickup.

“We’re grateful for your kindness and commitment to making a difference in our community,” the post stated.

Fellow members of the RGC community who also donated to the toy drive include Starr County Relays, Walmart, Family Health Center, H-E-B, Veterans Middle School, Fadez Barber Studio 2.0 and the Eduardo “Eddie” Ramirez Law Firm.

In addition to Grupo Frontera’s donation, the police department teamed up with Chick-fil-A on Dec. 10 where officers were serving customers to earn tips to purchase toys for the drive.
