HARLINGEN, Texas – Congressman Vicente Gonzalez says he has secured mire than $1.1 million in additional federal funding for the air traffic control tower at Valley International Airport (VIA).
Gonzalez said the grant will fund portions of the interior construction of the new tower. He said it will ensure that the facilities and workspaces are accessible for air traffic controllers and other personnel.
Funding, the congressman said, comes from the Federal Aviation Administration.
“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is continuing to deliver results for South Texas,” Gonzalez said. “The construction of this tower is a critical investment not just for Valley International, but for South Texas, as it will allow our region to meet today’s commercial travel demands while preparing for the future.”
Funding for the latest grant comes from the FAA Contract Tower Competitive Grant Program, which was included in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Gonzalez supported the legislation.
Earlier this year, Gonzalez announced over $7 million in federal funding for the eagerly-anticipated VIA project.
