Global bird-watching event coming to Brownsville

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Great Backyard Bird Count is Coming to Brownsville this month.

Each February, the Great Backyard Bird Count welcomes birdwatchers all over the world to come together to watch and count as many birds as they can.

The four-day worldwide event aims to help scientists better understand global bird populations before one of their annual migrations.

Rail line project from Brownsville to Roma in the works

Residents can choose to count birds from home, a local park, or the Resaca de la Palma State Parkhome.

The global birding event will begin Friday, Feb. 14 though Monday, Feb. 17.

Birds can be identified using the Merlin Bird ID or eBird applications.
