Gladys Porter Zoo becomes aglow once again with Zoo Nights & Lights each night Friday through Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m.
This year’s light fest is presented by McDonald’s. GPZ said the “family-friendly event offers holiday spirit and fun for guests of all ages as well as a romantic setting for a date night.”
“The public is invited to stroll through the zoo’s pathways filled with brilliant light displays while enjoying live musical and dance performances from talented local groups,” according to organizers. “Guests can participate in the festivities with Christmas karaoke, cookie decorating and pictures with Santa.”
Holiday gifts can also be found at GPZ’s newly renovated gift shop and at the event’s annual arts and crafts show. Teams made up of zoo staff will compete in a Christmas tree decorating contest, with the public deciding the winners.
“Guests can take a walk through the zoo’s Christmas Tree Lane to see the beautifully decorated trees and then cast their vote for their favorite,” organizers said.
Tickets for Zoo Nights & Lights are $5 per person and can be purchased at the gate and online. Zoo members received free admission with their membership cards. GPZ recommends that members pick up their free tickets in advance at the zoo’s membership offices.
Guests can also received free admission by donating a new, unwrapped toy (minimum $5 value) for the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley. One toy is good for one free admission.
