FridaFest 2024 returns to Edinburg this weekend

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Edinburg is returning with its 11th annual FridaFest to honor and celebrate Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

This year's FridaFest is themed around art and wellness while incorporating themes of Mexican culture and community.

Edinburg is one of 18 cities nationwide selected to improve community health and wellness through the arts.

During FridaFest, all 18 cities will join in an evening of celebration, premiering large-scale participatory art projects inspired by the theme "No place like home."

The festivities will begin with the premiere of the original musical Despierta! at the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium.

FridaFest will showcase local art demonstrations, live music, health and wellness partners, local performers, Frida-inspired models, mariachi and folkloric performances, fun photo opportunities, kiddie rides and a children's activity area.

Contests will take place during FridaFest, including the annual Frida Look-A-Like Contest and a chalk art competition.

FridaFest will kickoff at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, July 27 at the Edinburg Promenade Park Amphitheater located on 201 W. McIntyre St.

Admission to FridaFest is free of charge.
