Food Bank RGV receives grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas

PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley announced it received a Blue Impact grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.

According to the food bank, the grant reflects BCBSTX's dedication to community-based organizations that focus on children and families.

The funds will help the Food Bank RGV upgrade its Resource Centers and expand mobile food distributions, increasing access to nutritious food for families across the Rio Grande Valley.

"At the Food Bank RGV, we know that access to nutritious food is the foundation for a healthier community. This Blue Impact grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas allows us to expand our efforts in addressing food insecurity and the social factors that impact health," said Libby A. Saenz, CEO of the Food Bank RGV.

BCBSTX has awarded more than $25 million in grants to community organizations statewide since 2011.
