PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday morning to kick off construction on its new Produce Resource Center.

"The new Produce Resource Center will house a cooler, freezer, and operations area and will allow the Food Bank of the RGV to serve more community members with healthy produce options," said Libby Saenz, CEO of FBRGV. "We are grateful for the generous support from the Adam R. Scripps Foundation, which made construction of this new building possible."

The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley Inc. was incorporated in 1986 and has grown to be the largest charity in South Texas. In 2022, the food bank distributed over 44 million pounds of food to people and families in need.

As it stands today, the Food Bank RGV serves 85,000 people weekly at its 275 partner locations.
