HIDALGO COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — One family in rural Hidalgo County lost everything to a fire earlier this week. However, the local community has mobilized to help them in their time of need.

In the 8000 block of Amor Del Sol a community’s love is truly being shown, after a family lost their home during a fire.

The incident occurred on Saturday, June 8. The house fire left the family of seven, including Isabel Cano who is pregnant with twins, homeless.

The family camps outside their former home as they continue searching in the rubble.

Even though the stench of burned wood becomes more noticeable every day, the community’s support has not stopped.

“The fire started around 7:20 to 7:30 p.m. We were outside when my son stepped into the house and said there was a fire," Cano said.

David Cano was working at the time of the fire and when he got home he saw that everything was lost.

Burned toys, work boots, purses, and insulation coming out of the house were the only things that were left from the fire.

However, the family has found hope with the community’s support. For days, people have donated monetary donations, clothing, water and food.

One local organization donated a check to the family to help them kickstart their recovery efforts.

“I feel these are the moments when sometimes you ask yourself, why doesn't the community help or do this?," said Julian Silva, administrator for Concord Hospice Care.

Both Isabel and David say they are grateful for all the community has provided. The family is now staying with family members.

However, they camp outside their home as they want to provide the children some normalcy by playing in their yard. The couple hopes to one day rebuild and start again.

“We come and stay here because this is what we had and there were our belongings," Cano said. "This is where we started, and where my kids had their stuff, so I told my husband that I wanted to be here and not leave.”

The family said that a faulty boiler caused the fire. However, the fire department that responded to the scene has not confirmed the cause.
