Man charged with injury to elderly strips during arrest

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Cameron County Sheriff's Office is investigating an assault that was reported on Thursday, according to a news release.

At about 6:36 p.m. sheriff's deputies responded to the 100 block of Sally Lane in regard to the assault.

Deputies made contact with the 78-year-old victim who told deputies they were assaulted by Derrick Luis Salgado.

The victim said when they arrived home they saw Salgado come outside of the home and then walked back inside.

The deputies were told by the victim Salgado began yelling at them that they smelled and had been grabbed and punched in the head by Salgado.

The victim stated they fell near the entrance of the home causing them to fall on their buttocks and causing them to hit the back of their head, according to the sheriff's office.

Salgado, according to the victim, began kicking and punching them while they were on the ground and attempted to take their property. The victim was able to get free of Salgado and called for assistance.

Sherriff's deputies were informed that Salgado had a medical condition and was not taking his medication. They attempted to detain him but he refused to comply with commands given by deputies.

Salgado began taunting deputies by taking off his clothes and telling them they were not going to touch him.

Deputies then deployed pepper spray on Salgado. He began to stiffen up his arms and refused to be handcuffed. After several moments, Salgado’s arms were secured in handcuffs.

Salgado was arrested and charged with injury to an elderly and resisting arrest/detention. He was booked into the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center.
