The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal crash involving two vehicles early Sunday morning that left one person dead.

Edinburg resident Itzel Limas, 28, died from her injuries after being transported to a local hospital, DPS said.

According to a news release, the crash occurred at about 3:38 a.m. Sunday on FM 2812 and Vista Bonita Drive in Edinburg.

Based on a preliminary investigation, DPS said its findings revealed a 2012 Honda Accord occupied by one male driver and a female passenger, later identified as Limas, was traveling westbound on the eastbound lane of FM 2812 and approaching Vista Bonita Drive.

A 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe, occupied by one male driver and a male passenger, was traveling eastbound on FM 2812 and collided with the Honda, the release stated, adding that those two men were transported to DHR Health with non-incapacitating injuries.

DPS said Limas and the driver of the Honda, who wasn’t identified, were also transported to the same hospital with incapacitating injuries, which is where Limas later died.

The agency said the fatal crash continues to be under investigation.
