EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Edinburg is set to begin Phase II of its Brennaaleen Cedar Project.

The purpose of the project is to alleviate flooding in the area.

In Phase I, the city staff acquired a 2.53-acre tract for the regional detention pond with a storage volume of 18,860 cubic yards (11.69 ac-ft). The 8-foot-deep detention pond will service approximately 34 acres and indirectly benefit an additional 91 acres.

In addition, approximately 2,700 linear feet of storm pipe will be installed.

Phase II of the project includes excavating a regional detention pond and installing storm infrastructure that will benefit the Brennaaleen, Cedar, and Greenbriar subdivisions.

Brennaaleen will provide detention volume and increase drainage conveyance capacity within the storm sewer system.

Residents are invited to a groundbreaking ceremony for the project at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 21 at 1200 S. Sugar Road.
