Edinburg native and Latin Grammy Award winning Tejano artist Bobby Pulido announced that he will go on a farewell tour in 2025 before making a run for public office the following year.

The announcement was made Thursday afternoon in front of friends and family and live streamed on his Facebook page. His new tour will be called the “Por La Puenta Grande Tour”.

“I was very worried because I didn’t want to be a meme,” Pulido said lightheartedly just before reading a prepared statement, which was published to his Facebook page. “So I hope I can get through this without crying.”

During the statement, Pulido reflected on his multi-decade career, which will reach 30 years in 2025, and his interest in political science prior to devoting himself to his music.

“Next year, I’ll be celebrating 30 years in the music business, and to be quite honest, I’m enjoying the most success I’ve ever had,” he said. “But like the saying goes, ‘All good things must come to an end.’ Today I’m announcing my farewell tour for next year. It’s not a decision that I have hastily made. I’ve given it a lot of thought. I feel like my life has come full circle.”

He said that he has always been intrigued by public service, recalling his time in high school when he participated in Texas Boys State and receiving a scholarship to study political science at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio before following in his father’s footsteps and venturing into music.

“In 2026 I’ll be running for public office in the attempt to fulfill my lifelong dream to serve my people,” he announced. “At this time, I cannot mention what I’ll be running for or any details. People are exhausted from a grueling political season. In due time, everyone will know what I stand for and what capacity I’d like to serve.”

Pulido rose to prominence in what many consider to be the golden age of Tejano music. He got his start recording a duet titled, “Contigo” with his father, Tejano legend Roberto Pulido.

Soon after, he released his debut album, “Desvelado”, which included the title track that would launch his career onto the national stage. His other well known hits include “Se Murió De Amor” and “Le Pediré.”

“My musical journey has been a roller coaster with ups and downs, and through it all, you stayed on that coaster faithfully,” Pulido said. “Even though, eventually, I won’t be present for you to see a show, my music will be present at your parties on the weekends. Thank you.”

“Today is bittersweet,” he continued. “I’m closing out a chapter in my life. Something’s dying, and I’m starting another, but I know in my heart it’s the right thing to do.”
