Edinburg mayor announces cancer diagnosis, will not seek reelection

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — On Wednesday afternoon Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. announced he has prostate cancer.

With his wife by his side, the mayor said he will not seek reelection but will finish his term. Garza referred to the diagnosis as a wake-up call and wants to focus 100% on his health and family.

He thanked his family and the city and reassured the public that the city will continue to operate.

Garza found out about his diagnosis through a yearly doctor visit and urged men to get exams. He said he feels well and to keep him and his family in prayer.
