EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Edinburg is preparing for its 13th annual Edinburg Cares Food Drive this weekend.

Edinburg city and school leaders are partnering with H-E-B to bring the holidays to families across town.

Volunteers will distribute 1,000 turkeys and 1,000 food baskets to pre-selected families to spread holiday joy.

"When we deliver the turkeys to the families that are in need of assistance, it's wonderful," said Javier Garza, Director of Parks and Recreation.

In order to prepare for the mass distribution, volunteers have been sorting cans of food to create the baskets.

"It's just a warm feeling for everybody. It's something to give back to the community," Garza continued.

The food drive will kick-off with a ceremony before volunteers begin delivering meals to homes.

The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department located on 315 Mark S. Pena Drive.
