DPS: Auto-pedestrian crash leaves one dead near Brownsville

CAMERON COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. on FM 802 west of Vermillion Avenue north of Brownsville, according to a news release from Texas DPS.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Toyota Tacoma occupied by a driver, was traveling westbound on FM 802.

The release stated a man was attempting to cross the road northbound on a non-designated highway area and was hit by the Toyota.

DPS says the driver of the Toyota stopped to help the pedestrian and called 911.

The victim was identified as 31-year-old Grabriel Arenas Ibarra. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is an ongoing investigation.
