Donna mother arrested after child abused to death, father at large

DONNA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A mother was arrested in connection to the death of her child, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office.

Wendy Rivera, 25, was arrested after her child suffered extensive injuries and was found unresponsive Thursday afternoon at a residence in rural Donna shortly after 4:30 p.m.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office says the child had bruises, lacerations, burns and bite marks, all indicating prolonged abuse.

The child was transported to Edinburg Children’s Hospital and was pronounced dead one hour later.

Rivera admitted to knowing about the injuries and failing to report them. She was charged with failure to report a felony and is in custody. 

Investigators are searching for the child's father, 23-year-old Jose Manuel Uresti, who is wanted for questioning. 

Autopsy results on the child's death are pending.
