The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a Donna man whose child died Thursday afternoon due to injuries sustained after the mother admitted to knowing about them, according to a news release.
Investigators are looking for 23-year-old Jose Manuel Uresti for questioning after his child’s mother, 25-year-old Wendy Rivera, admitted to knowing about the child’s injuries.
At about 4:34 p.m. Thursday, sheriff’s deputies responded to a call regarding an unresponsive child in the 9700 block of Klarissa Drive in rural Donna.
“The child was transported to Edinburg Children’s Hospital but was pronounced dead at 5:32 p.m.,” the release said.
A preliminary investigation revealed the child suffered extensive injuries which included bruises, lacerations, burns and bite marks, an indication of prolonged abuse, according to the release.
Rivera admitted to knowing about the injuries and failing to report them, which resulted in her being arrested and charged with failure to report a felony. She is currently in custody.
The sheriff’s office is asking the public to reach out if they have any information regarding Uresti’s whereabouts at (956) 383-8114 or Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers at (956) 668-8477.
