Donna man dies after crashing into pole, tree in Weslaco

The Texas Department of Public Safety said a Donna man died Sunday morning in a one-vehicle fatal crash in Weslaco.

The agency identified the man as Joe Rodriguez, 34.

According to a news release, the crash occurred at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Mile 7 N., west of Milano Road in Weslaco.

Based on a preliminary investigation, DPS said a Honda CRV driven by Rodriguez was traveling eastbound on Mile 7 N. when it veered south off the roadway then back north onto the roadway before skidding off south of the roadway where the vehicle hit a pole and tree.

DPS said Rodriguez was not wearing a seat belt, but was not ejected.

The agency is further investigating the crash.
