DHR Health launches new volunteer-driven hospitality program to bring home comforts to patients

Edinburg, TX: It takes more than medicines and surgery to heal, and DHR Health is again leading the Valley in caring for the community. Recently, DHR Health, launched a volunteer-driven, holistic care program that brings community members and the comforts of home to its healing patients. Since its inception, the program has garnered overwhelmingly positive feedback from patients who appreciate the thoughtful gestures and personal interactions they receive during the volunteer visits. Many patients have expressed how these small efforts have helped alleviate stress that is sometimes associated with a hospital stay.

“My husband, received several items from the hospitality cart, that have all been very useful to us during his hospital stay, we are very happy with the service,” said Maria Rodriguez, spouse of recent DHR Health patient Lorenzo Rodriguez.

The program, which began just over two months ago, provides patients with thoughtful, personalized services to make their stay more comfortable. Volunteers with specialized training visit patients in their rooms, offering a range of comfort items such as hair brushes, hair ties, magazines, books, and other items aimed at meeting individual patient’s needs. They also spend quality time with patients, lending a kind ear or sharing stories, supporting patients on their healing journey.

“We are thrilled with the success this program and the positive impact it has had on our patients,” said Leticia Ramirez, DHR Health registered nurse and quality improved coordinator. “The volunteer hospitality program is one more way we are working to provide exceptional care and ensure our patients feel supported and valued during their stay with us.”
