COSTEP to host a trade delegation from India

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The Council for South Texas Economic Progress is hosting a delegation of potential investors from India next week.

The visit came about as a result of COSTEP CEO Adam Gonzalez’s trip to the country in late January. Gonzalez joined Gov. Greg Abbott and other Texas dignitaries in visits to cities like Mumbai and Delhi. The trade mission was set up the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office and the Texas Economic Development Corporation.

“This visit is all about bringing foreign direct investment into the Rio South Texas region,” Gonzalez said. “We will be bringing an Indian delegation to Cameron County to hear presentations from Cameron stakeholders and then Hidalgo County to hear presentations from Hidalgo stakeholders.”

Gonzalez said he met many representatives from manufacturing and high-tech companies on his nine-day trip to India in January. He said he has kept in touch with many of them since via email.

“The delegation that is coming to the Valley has invited me to go back to India in July but, unfortunately, I cannot go. But my focus is not to be out and about but rather to bring those businesses into our region. You cannot sell our region over there. You can get them excited about it but they have to come and see the region for themselves. Once they see what we have to offer I am always confident we can land a deal.”

The visit by the Indian delegation is private. The delegation will fly in late Wednesday, May 29 and stay in Brownsville. The following morning the delegation will hear from Cameron County leaders at a private event at the Port of Brownsville. On the afternoon of May 30, the delegation will head to McAllen to hear private presentations from economic development leaders in Hidalgo County.
