MERCEDES, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Congressman Vicente Gonzalez held a ceremony Tuesday for the 2024 Congressional App Challenge winner.
The winning app from Gonzalez's district, DreamHaven, will be featured on display at the U.S. Capitol and on the Congressional App Challenge website.
The app was created by Ayush Mitra, a Senior at South Texas ISD Science Academy in Mercedes. It allows users to journal and analyze their dreams using AI and the Gemini app.
Mitra expressed gratitude towards his parents, teachers, and Congressman Gonzalez for their support and the opportunity.
"I think it's been amazing. I'm really happy, but I think the school has been what's gotten me to this position. I'm grateful for all the support and love that I've received from everyone. It's been amazing," said Mitra.
The CAC highlights the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education in the U.S. It also allows middle and high school students to hone and showcase their coding and technology skills.
The competition was created in 2013 to encourage children to get involved with computer-based skills and STEM programs to maintain America's technological edge.
