HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The strongest cold front of the season so far is pushing through the Rio Grande Valley this morning and into the early afternoon.
Behind the front, our winds will pick up out of the north and temperatures will begin to cool off through much of the afternoon and into the night. Much of the Valley may be close to 60 degrees by late this afternoon.
The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Cameron County and Willacy County from 3 p.m. today until 4 a.m. Wednesday. They have also issued a Gale Warning for the Laguna Madre and Gulf waters beginning at 3 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Wednesday.
We are not ruling out a brief shower, mostly in the eastern portions of the Valley with or right behind the cold front this afternoon.
Find your heavy jackets or winter coats. Low temperatures tonight will drop into the lower 40's for much of the Valley. A few areas, primarily in the northern ranchlands may see lows in the upper 30's. Breezy conditions Wednesday morning will have us talking about wind chills for the first time this season as well. The combination of the wind and cold air will make many areas feel like it is in the upper 30's during the coldest part of the morning on Wednesday.
We do expect Wednesday to be a bright, sunny, and cool day. Our high temperatures tomorrow will likely stay in the lower 60's. Winds will lessen as we head through the day as well. Then, with clear skies Wednesday night will be another cold night in the 40's.
We will continue to track the cold front and adjust our forecasts throughout the day as needed.
