Classroom Cribs: Harlingen CISD

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Classroom Cribs is returning to ValleyCentral to highlight schools making a positive difference to their students.

ValleyCentral is highlighting five school districts for this edition and we're asking our viewers to vote for their favorite classroom.

Our team visited Jubilee Academy in Harlingen to learn about the school's GEAR UP program.

GEAR UP is a grant-funded program that provides college readiness support and encourages students to look forward to their college careers.

The program is offered to Jubilee Academy students in second through ninth grade.

During our visit, students had a panel to learn about the college experience from college students.

"Having an event like this at school is really helpful because it motivates me to learn more and to go to college," said Libia Then, a 7th grade student at Jubilee Academy.

"I'm really happy to let my school host the events like this, because it really opens my mind," said Gabriel Medrano, Jubilee Academy Student Council President.
