Duberney's award came from an incident where he saved a man who had overdosed on drugs. The officer stayed with the man and began to administer Narcan to him multiple times before EMS took him to the hospital.

"Even though the situations we respond to may be a little rough on the soul, when something positive comes from it, that what I look forward to," Duberney said.

Though he said it is nice to be recognized by the community, Duberney stressed that is not what motivates him to do the job. He says he is constantly looking for ways to get training to be the best first responder he can be because in those moments where people need help, that is all that matters.
