BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Brownsville is hosting a summer-long initiative to promote safety awareness in the area.

City officials announced 100 Days of Safety to teach residents about different kinds of safety including bicycle and pedestrian safety, child safety, first aid and cybersecurity.

Throughout the 100-day period, the Brownsville Police Department will coordinate safety events for residents to attend.

"There will be at least one [safety event] and maybe more than one that resonates with a citizen. So it's important to be aware of them and hopefully take advantage of these seminars," said Roy De los Santos, Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Brownsville.

Events that will be held during the initiative are child safety inspections, software training, bike and pedestrian training, active shooter response training, self-defense and CPR training.

The 100-day period will start June 12 through September 20.
