Upcoming City Commission Meeting in McAllen
The City Commission of McAllen will be holding a regular meeting on January 26, 2026, at 5:00 PM in the City Commission Chambers on the 3rd floor of McAllen City Hall. The meeting will be called to order by Mayor Javier Villalobos, followed by the pledge of allegiance and an invocation by Mayor Pro Tem Victor "Seby" Haddad. The city will also be issuing a proclamation for Navy Week, presented by Elvira Alonzo.Public Hearing and Agenda Items
A public hearing will be held to discuss several rezoning requests, including the rezoning of a 0.29-acre tract of land from R-3A to C-2, a 0.10-acre tract from R-2 to R-2, and a 5.0-acre tract from C-2 to M-2, among others. The city will also consider requests for conditional use permits, including one for a Boys and Girls Club and several for smoke shops and vape shops. Additionally, the city will be discussing a variance request from the Sonjack Group, LLC, for a location at 920 North Main Street.Consent Agenda and Bids/Contracts
The consent agenda will include the approval of minutes from previous meetings, a subdivision monthly report, and a parks and recreation project monthly status report. The city will also consider approval of an agreement for fiscal year 2025-2026 Texas Department of Transportation allocation funding and authorization to remove uncollectible sanitation and drainage fee accounts. Several contracts will be awarded, including one for the purchase and installation of playground equipment and another for the purchase of VMware maintenance subscription.Manager's Report and Executive Session
The city manager will provide a report on advisory board appointments, boards and committees served by elected officials, and future agenda items. The meeting will then go into executive session to discuss pending litigation, legal matters related to proposed ordinances, and economic development. The city commission may also deliberate on real property matters and personnel issues during the executive session.Accommodations and Certification
The city will provide accommodations for individuals with disabilities and interpreters for the deaf upon request.
