Chilly forecast for ‘Noche Magica’ McAllen Holiday Parade

2 weeks ago 55

It’s no winter wonderland, but the forecast calls for a cold Valley Saturday night with temperatures in the 50s and a chance of rain, just in time for the 11th annual McAllen Holiday Parade.

The largest illuminated holiday parade in Texas, themed “Noche Magica,” will begin at 6 p.m. from DQ Fan Field at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium and travel Bicentennial Avenue.

The ever-youthful Mario Lopez will return as parade host, accompanied by 63 floats and 38 balloons — including SpongeBob SquarePants and Hello Kitty.

Among the expected celebrity guests are radio personalities Rich and Payton from the JohnJay and Rich Show, Dallas Cowboys DeMarcus Lawrence, Russell Maryland and Erik Williams, Grupo Duelo’s Oscar Ivan, local beauty influencer Luis Alejandro, Mexican soccer standouts Vicente Matias Vuoso and Francisco Torres, and Mateo Lopez, the Guinness Book of World Records’ youngest professional mariachi.

A celebrated pair of dudes will excite the children in all of us: Santa Claus and Ronald McDonald.

Tickets for seating in the stadium can be purchased via Ticketmaster, or along the parade route, at mcallenevents.saffire.com/p/tickets, but we’re not making guarantees about what kind of spots remain. As usual, the route is 1.5 miles long, but this event isn’t known for low attendance, so arrive early.

Additional events Saturday include Christmas in the Park, which will open at noon. Live music is planned throughout the day. Stadium seating opens at 3:30 p.m. and an kick-off extravaganza with fireworks is set for 5 p.m.

Free shuttle service begins at noon from South Texas College, with shuttles running every 15 minutes until midnight.

If home is where your heart is, Roy Cantu and Xóchitl Mora will host the parade on Spectrum Channel 1300, online at McAllen.net, via the McAllen 3-1-1 app or on the City of McAllen YouTube channel.
