CCSO: Woman arrested for assaulting officer

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Cameron County Sheriff's deputies arrested a woman Thursday for allegedly pulling an officer close to her with force.

At 8:29 a.m. Thursday, deputies responded to a report of loud music at the 6000 block of Maverick Road in Brownsville.

The source of the music was coming from an unoccupied Cadillac Escalade parked in the driveway. As deputies approached the vehicle, they observed open alcoholic drinks inside, according to a release.

Officers attempted to locate the owner of the vehicle when a woman, later identified as Alejandra Mendez, walked out of the residence holding a beer and was displaying signs of intoxication such as slurred speech and unsteady balance.

The homeowner, later identified as Yesenia Quintanilla, stepped out of the residence also showing signs of intoxication.

As deputies interviewed Quintanilla, Mendez approached one of the deputies from behind, grabbed and pulled him closely to her with force, the release stated.

After the homeowner complied and lowered the music, deputies proceeded to place Mendez under arrest for assault by physical contact for grabbing the deputy and pulling him towards her.
Mendez also resisted arrest by pulling away with force. She was subdued and placed in handcuffs.

She was transported to Carrizales Rucker Detention Center and was charged with assault by physical contact, a class C misdemeanor and resisting arrest, a class B misdemeanor.
