CCSO: Teen shoots gun while driving, get stuck in mud

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An 18-year-old was arrested for allegedly shooting recklessly out the window of a moving car and striking another vehicle, deputies say.

Angel de Jesus Hernandez was charged with tampering with physical evidence, deadly conduct, unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of marijuana.

On Tuesday, authorities responded to a hit-and-run in the area of Florida Road and FM 511. At the scene, Cameron County deputies alongside Texas DPS troopers, began interviewing several witnesses at the location and collected evidence.

According to a news release from the Cameron County Sheriff's Office, the investigation revealed that two suspects in a tan color Hyundai had fired a gun out of the window of their vehicle while driving and left the scene.

While they were leaving the scene, deputies say they hit another vehicle from behind and two traffic signs that were on the side of the road. The driver lost control of the vehicle and ended up getting stuck in the mud.

The suspects were able to get their vehicle out of the mud and continued to drive away. Deputies were able to locate the suspected vehicle parked outside a residence.

The driver, later identified as Hernandez, ended up confessing to the crime. Authorities later learned that Hernandez and his friend, who has not been arrested yet, were also in possession of marijuana at the time of the crime.

Investigators later learned the suspects attempted to get rid of the gun and the marijuana so it would not be found when police arrived, the release added.

Both the gun and marijuana were seized as evidence.

Hernandez was booked into Carrizalez Rucker Detention Center. According to the release, the second suspect has not been arrested yet.
