OLMITO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A teen was arrested after tossing a weapon that injured her boyfriend, authorities say.

Daisy Lee Barrera, 18, was charged with tampering with physical evidence, according to a news release from the Cameron County Sheriff's Office.

At 4:14 p.m. on Sunday, authorities responded to a residence in Olmito regarding someone being shot.

At the scene, deputies saw a man, identified as Jose Alejandro Garza, who was "bleeding profusely" from a gunshot wound on his right leg, the release stated.

Deputies immediately applied a tourniquet to Garza's leg to stop the bleeding. According to deputies, when they began interviewing him regarding the incident, he became uncooperative and evasive in his answers.

The investigation later revealed Garza was accompanied by his girlfriend, identified as Barrera when the incident occurred.

Deputies later located a 9mm handgun near the scene where Garza was found. While interviewing Barrera, she confessed to tossing the handgun over a fence after the incident occurred, deputies said.

Barrera was booked into Carrizalez Rucker Detention Center. She is pending arraignment.
