BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man and his 16-year-old son were arrested for allegedly stabbing a man several times at a party, deputies said.
Jose Luis Villegas Rangel, 36, and his 16-year-old son were charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to a news release from the Cameron County Sheriff's Office.
At 7:04 a.m. on Sunday, Cameron County deputies responded to a disturbance at the 5700 block of Southmost Road.
While en route, dispatch advised the responding deputies that the disturbance had escalated to a stabbing and the suspects left the scene.
At 9:12 a.m. deputies found and detained the suspects, identified as Rangel and his son, who were allegedly involved in the stabbing.
An investigation revealed that Rangel and his son were drinking all night with the victim at a party. The morning after the party, an argument began between the victim and Rangel.
The release stated that Rangel began punching the victim's face and his son had joined in the assault.
During the assault, both Rangel and his son took out knives and stabbed the victim several times in his chest and abdomen.
Deputies said the victim had an emergency surgery due to life-threatening injuries. He remains hospitalized at this time.
Rangel's bond was set at $200,000.
