BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man was arrested for allegedly taking out a knife at a Brownsville Independent School District elementary school during an open house event, authorities say.
Juan Antonio Duque was charged with carrying a weapon where possession is prohibited, according to the Cameron County Sheriff's Office.
On Tuesday, Ortiz Elementary hosted an open house event, when a man showed up to meet a family.
Brownsville ISD Chief Oscar Garcia told ValleyCentral the man, later identified as Duque, had a backpack, and while he was there he dropped a knife.
An officer approached him and unloaded his weapon.
The man was booked into the Carrizalez Rucker Detention Center and was issued a bond of $20,000.
