CBP seize $5.4 million worth of meth at Pharr bridge

PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized more than $5.4 million in methamphetamine earlier this month, according to a news release.

On May 9, customs officers referred a tractor-trailer with a shipment of papayas to a second inspection at the Pharr International Bridge.

According to a release from CBP, during the examination officers discovered 369 packages containing a total of 606 pounds of methamphetamine.

“This large seizure illustrates the dedication of our frontline officers to CBP’s border security mission and their effective utilization of inspections technology and canines to detect and interdict narcotics,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry. 

Authorities say the narcotics had a street value of $5,419,700.
