PALMVIEW, Texas (ValleyCentral) — IDEA Palmview Academy and College Preparatory on Monday welcomed agents from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency to celebrate Red Ribbon Week.

The theme of the day was "My Superpower is Saying NO to Drugs!" and students were encouraged to dress up as their favorite superheroes. The day featured a presentation on the dangers of drugs, and a show-and-tell featuring the different divisions of CBP.

Students rotated through different stations and learned how agents use boats, ATVs, horses, and K-9s in various job duties.

"We are grateful to the CBP agents for taking time out of their day to interact with our students and educate them on the importance of staying drug-free," said Deirdre Medina, IDEA Palmview Principal.

Sponsored by National Family Partnership, Red Ribbon Week honors the life of U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Agent, Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, and his work to battle illicit drugs. Camarena was killed in Mexico after he was abducted in 1985.

This is the fourth year CBP agents visited the campus during Red Ribbon Week.
