Cameron, Hidalgo Counties declared areas of disaster after Tropical Storm Alberto

CAMERON/HIDALGO COUNTIES, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Cameron and Hidalgo Counties have been declares areas of disaster following the results of Tropical Storm Alberto, the first named storm of the 2024 hurricane season.

Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr. signed and declared Cameron County a state of disaster at 4:14 p.m.

Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez, in his capacity as director of emergency management, issued a local state of disaster declaration for Hidalgo County at 4:35 p.m.

This comes after Governor Greg Abbott signed a Disaster Proclamation, certifying that Tropical Storm Alberto poses a threat of imminent disaster, including widespread and severe property damage, injury and loss of life due to flooding , life-threatening storm surge, damaging wind and heavy rainfall.
