Brownsville PD: Drug deal gone wrong led to kidnapping

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Three people have been arrested on charges of aggravated kidnapping in Brownsville.

Cris Angel Aguilar, Kristopher Alexander Lerma and Gilberto Moises Cancino were all arrested in connection to the aggravated kidnapping.

Abril Luna, public information officer with the Brownsville Police Department, said the motive behind the kidnappings was allegedly due to a drug deal gone wrong.

Luna says the three suspects kept both victims in a home bathroom for several days where they were allegedly tortured and beaten.

"They were pouring hot boiling water on them, they were beaten," Luna said. "The injuries were pretty lengthy."

Brownsville police learned about the kidnapping after a 911 came in about individuals knocking on a neighbor's door.

"The victims were able to free themselves, run out and they went to the nearest apartments where they called 911," Luna said.

The people knocking were later discovered to be the victims in the case.

Both vicitms were taken to an area hospital where they were reported to have severe burns and other injuries indicating physical abuse.

The three suspects were arrested and arraigned.

Lerma and Cancino were given a bond of $600,000.

Aguilar received a bond of $400,000.
