Brownsville opens new facility for seniors and Veterans

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department held a soft opening for its new Senior Center building on Thursday.

The new facility offers services and wellness programs to the senior and Veteran community.

"We have a large community here in the downtown area that are older and active adults," said Sean De Palma, Director of Brownsville Parks and Recreation.

Programs that will be offered at the new center include exercise classes, bingo, arts and crafts and cooking.

Local churches observe Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe

"It's to have an inclusive community where everyone comes out and enjoys each other and has community engagement," De Palma continued.

The Brownsville Senior Center is located on 519 E. Madison St.

Anyone interested in visiting the center can visit and sign up for a program between 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

All of the programs at the senior center are free.
