Brownsville ISD Superintendent Jesus H. Chavez has resumed his leadership role with the district amid a warm welcome upon his return, BISD announced Tuesday.
Chavez had been on a previously planned leave of absence for a medical procedure since December. Chief Financial Officer Alejandro Cespedes served as the district’s point of contact in his absence.
Cespedes will now revert to his primary administrative responsibilities and work closely with Chavez to ensure the continued effectiveness of district operations.
“I am excited and energized to return to serving our students, staff, and community,” Chavez stated. “The opportunity to once again serve our educational community is a profound privilege, and I am committed to continuing the critical work of our district and advancing educational opportunities for our students.”
In a statement, BISD said Chavez plans to engage in comprehensive discussions with district leadership to assess current initiatives. The aim of these discussions is not only to address immediate challenges but also to create a road map for a successful conclusion to the school year.
The district expressed “appreciation to our staff for their professionalism, to the community for their patience, and to all stakeholders who have supported the district during this transitional period.”
