Brownsville airport announces new non-stop flights to Monterrey

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport announced a new international destination that will bring tourists to and from the Rio Grande Valley.

Aerus, a Mexico-based airline, is partnering with the the Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport to bring non-stop flights to Monterrey.

The partnership marks the first time in 20 years Aerus will directly connect with a U.S. city.

"I think having daily flights to Monterrey really strengthens that bond and opens a lot of doors for what we can do as a community," said John Cowen, Mayor of Brownsville.

The flight Brownsville to Monterrey is expected to be less than one hour.

Tourists will soon be able to book their flight to Monterrey starting Monday, July 8.

The first flight from Brownsville to Monterrey will take off September 9.
