BPD: Two men arrested after fleeing scene in auto theft

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Brownsville police arrested two men accused of stealing 2020 Chevy Silverado.

Brayan Alberto Tovar, 28 was charged with theft of motor vehicle, evading arrest on motor vehicle, evading arrest on foot, resisting arrest and unlawful use of criminal instrument.

Juan Manuel Uresti, 24, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, evading arrest on a motor vehicle, evading arrest on foot and unlawful use of a criminal instrument, according to a release from the Brownsville Police Department.

At 5:27 a.m. on March 27, authorities responded to an auto theft involving a 2020 Chevy Silverado at the 2700 block of Old Alice Road.

The responding officers found the stolen truck at the 1300 block of International Boulevard and a vehicle pursuit began.

According to the release, when the pursuit ended, two men, later identified as Tovar and Uresti, got out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

Tovar was later found hiding under a house at the 2100 block of E. Van Buren Street. Uresti was found hiding at the 2100 block of E. Jackson Street in the bushes and branches, the release added.

Both men were booked into the Brownsville City Jail and were arraigned the following day.

Uresti was issued a $60,000 bond and Tovar was issued a $90,000 bond.
