Body of Harlingen teen found on SPI, family confirms

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCental) — Cameron County Park Rangers were notified on Sunday of a body that washed up on the shoreline two miles north of county beach access 5.

Around 11 p.m. last night, rangers recovered and received confirmation that the body was that of a 13-year-old Harlingen girl who went missing Sunday morning.

Confirmation of the teen's identity came from the aunt and uncle of the deceased teenager.

U.S. Coast Guard, along with local agencies had been searching for the girl since she went missing yesterday at 7:15 a.m. Preliminary reports said she was pulled in by a rip current while swimming on SPI.
